Vehicle Transport to Pembrey Circuit

Pembrey sits in a strange spot for a race circuit. It's tucked inside Pembrey Country Park on the Carmarthenshire coast, a few miles west of Llanelli and Burry Port, with the sea close enough that you can smell it in the paddock. The circuit is a former RAF airfield, so it's flat and quick, mixing fast sections with tight infield work through corners like Honda Curve, the Brooklands Hairpin, Dibeni and the Esses. The Welsh championship, BARC meetings and a steady run of track days and test sessions all come here, so there's something on the calendar most weeks through the season. Kidwelly and Carmarthen are only a short drive away if you need a garage, a tyre place or somewhere to stay, and there's plenty of room in the country park for a tow car and trailer once you're in. Getting to it from England means the M4 down to its end at Pont Abraham, then the A484 along the coast through Burry Port towards Llanelli. The last bit is country park roads with cyclists and dog walkers about, so we take that stretch easy. If your car is road legal, one of us drives it down, making my own way back and carrying spare wheels, fuel cans and tooling. If it isn't road legal, or it won't start, we bring a trailer. Either way the car ends up in the Pembrey paddock, not in a holding yard somewhere up the road. We've done the run from Exeter and the wider South West plenty of times, so we know where the fuel stops are, where the average-speed cameras sit on the M4 in Wales, and how long it actually takes with a loaded trailer on a Friday afternoon. The service area at Sarn Park is the sensible fuel stop before the run into west Wales, especially loaded.

Non-road-legal race cars

Plenty of the cars we move to Pembrey have no MOT, slick tyres and no lights worth a damn, so they can't touch a public road. For those we bring a trailer down the M4 rather than driving them. The car gets strapped down properly and unloaded in the paddock ready for scrutineering, while we bring the spares along.

Race bikes to the Welsh rounds

The bike meetings at Pembrey draw riders from all over Wales and the South West, and a race bike is a different job from a car. We secure it in the van or on a bike trailer, keep the paddock stands and tyre warmers with it, and make sure the fuel taps and drain are sorted for the scrutineers. The rider can meet us there.

Multi-car team moves

When a team runs two or three cars at a BARC meeting or a Welsh championship round, getting them all to Pembrey in one go saves a lot of faff. We can move the lot in a single run with a driven car plus a tow car and trailer, so the team arrives together, sets up once, and the drivers and mechanics aren't split across two or three separate trips down the M4.

Paddock to paddock, no depot

We don't drop your car at a holding yard near Swansea and make you collect it. We collect from your workshop, home or storage unit and hand the keys back in the Pembrey paddock, or the other way round after the meeting. It's one continuous move with the same person who loaded it, so you know exactly where the car is the whole way.

Non-runners and test days

Testing at Pembrey is where a car that won't start becomes a problem. If it's a rolling shell that needs pushing or winching, we can still get it there on a trailer and help get it onto the paddock stands. A car that needs setting up or running in is better arriving early, and we're happy to leave at a time that suits your session booking.

Timing around the events

Pembrey's calendar fills with Welsh championship rounds, BARC meetings and track days through the season, and sign-on and scrutineering usually happen first thing, which means an early start from Devon. We plan the run backwards from your briefing time, allow for the M4 traffic around Pont Abraham, and aim to have you parked up before the queue forms.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Pembrey from Devon and how long does the transport take?

Pembrey is roughly a three and a half to four hour run from Exeter depending on traffic, mostly along the M5 and then the M4 across into Wales. From further east in the South West you're looking at more like four and a half to five. We plan around the M4's average-speed sections and the usual Friday and Sunday queues, and if the car is on a trailer we allow a bit more again. We'll give you a straight time estimate when you book, not a vague window.

Can you transport a race car that isn't road legal to Pembrey?

Yes. A car with no MOT, slick tyres or no lights can't be driven on the road, so we trailer it instead. We'll ask about the car's ride height and whether it needs ramps or a low-angle trailer, then strap it down and take it straight to the paddock. We still bring the spares alongsideres. If you've also got a non-runner, tell us when you book so we bring the right kit.

Do you move race bikes to Pembrey?

We do. Bikes go in the van or on a bike trailer, with paddock stands, warmers and your spares kept together. We're careful about securing them properly, because a bike shifting in transit is the thing that causes damage. We can take the rider too, or you can meet us in the paddock. The bike gets unloaded and handed over in the Pembrey paddock before sign-on.

Which events do you cover at Pembrey?

We cover the Welsh championship rounds, BARC meetings, track days and test sessions that run at Pembrey through the season. The calendar changes year to year, so it's easiest to tell us the date you're booked and we'll work round it. If you're driving a road-legal car we can take it down on its own wheels; if not, we'll trailer it. We've moved cars for everything from club sprints to full race weekends here.

Can you collect from my workshop or home and drop at the paddock?

That's how we work. We collect from wherever the car lives, whether that's a workshop, a garage at home or a lock-up, and we hand it back in the Pembrey paddock. There's no depot in the middle and no third-party haulier taking over halfway. The same person who loaded your car is the one who drives or trailers it, so if anything shifts or needs a check, you're talking to the right person.

What if my car won't start?

A non-runner is fine, we just need to know in advance. We'll bring a trailer and, if it needs it, a winch or help pushing it on. For a test day where you want the car there early to set up, we can arrange collection the evening before. Let us know if it's a runner that just needs a jump or a full non-runner, because it changes which vehicle we send.
