Vehicle Transport to Silverstone Circuit

Silverstone is one of those places that everyone knows, even people who have never watched a race. It sits a couple of minutes from Towcester, just off the A43, and for one weekend in July the whole of Northamptonshire grinds to a standstill while Formula One rolls in. That is the easy bit to picture. What fewer people think about is how the cars actually get there. A modern single-seater cannot be driven down the A43 from Brackley or up the M1 from London. It sits in a truck or on a trailer, covered and strapped down, and it needs someone who knows the paddock to get it to the right garage without drama. We are based in Devon, but we spend plenty of nights in and around the Silverstone paddock. The place is vast. From Copse and Maggots and Becketts through Stowe, Club, Vale and Abbey, the circuit sprawls over what used to be an airfield, and the paddock and support paddock are enormous. Getting a race car to the correct awning, or a MotoGP bike to its garage, means knowing the layout and the schedule. The Porsche Experience Centre sits on the same site, and the main entrance is not always where you think it is depending on the event. We drive your car there ourselves, one of us behind the wheel making my own way back. That matters because a race car in traffic is not a normal car, and the person driving it should understand what it is. Silverstone hosts F1, MotoGP, BTCC and the World Endurance Championship, and the run-up to each meeting brings a different set of road closures and access rules. We plan around all of it, so your car turns up when you need it, in the right paddock, ready to be unloaded and scrutineered.

Non-road-legal race cars

If your car runs slicks, has no lights and would never pass an MOT, it cannot simply be driven up the M1. That is most of what we do. We load a single-seater, a Radical or a GT car onto a covered trailer or into a truck at your workshop or home, and we take it straight to the Silverstone paddock. The car never touches public tarmac, and it arrives exactly as it left, without a mile added to the clock.

Race bikes

Motorcycles are their own problem. A race bike on a wet road is a handful, and MotoGP and BSB machinery is built for one job. We transport race bikes to Silverstone on a proper bike trailer with the right tie-down points, and we ride nothing. We wheel it in, we strap it down, and we deliver it to the garage or awning in the support paddock where the team is waiting.

Multi-car team moves

If you run a team with three or four cars at a Silverstone test day or a support race, moving them all yourself eats your weekend before it starts. We coordinate a multi-car move with a couple of drivers and a support vehicle, so the whole outfit arrives together. Cars are strapped, covered and dropped in the right part of the paddock, in the order you want them unloaded.

Paddock-to-paddock delivery

The Silverstone paddock is big enough that getting the wrong garage costs you real time. Tell us which paddock, which garage, which awning, and we deliver there. We have done enough weekends at Silverstone to know where the support races load in, where the endurance teams set up, and where a private track day signs on. Your car goes to the right spot, not the car park.

Non-runners

A car that will not start is the most common reason we get a call on a Sunday evening. If the engine is out, the gearbox is in bits or the car simply refuses to fire after a long weekend, we winch it onto the trailer and bring it home. It does not need to roll under its own power. We carry the straps, ramps and a winch, and we are used to loading a dead car in the dark.

Timing around big events

The British Grand Prix weekend is not a normal delivery. Roads around Towcester and Brackley close, the A43 backs up for miles, and access passes are checked at gates that do not exist the rest of the year. We plan the route and the timing around the specific meeting, get there early when we need to, and sit in the queue when we have no choice. You turn up, the car is there.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book Silverstone transport?

Give us as much notice as you can, especially for the Grand Prix and MotoGP weekends. Two to three weeks is comfortable for a standard move from Devon or the South West. During July, when the roads around Towcester are closed and half the paddock is restricted, we prefer more. That said, we do take late calls for non-runners and broken cars. If you are stuck on a Sunday evening, ring us. We will tell you straight away whether we can reach you.

Can you move a car that is not road legal?

That is most of our work. A car that runs slicks, has no lights or would never pass an MOT cannot be driven on the A43 or the M1, so we transport it instead. It goes on a covered trailer or in a truck, strapped down the way a race car should be, and it arrives at the Silverstone paddock without a single mile added. We do not need it taxed, insured or MOT'd. We just need it to roll, or failing that, we bring a winch.

Where do you drop the car at Silverstone?

Wherever your entry paperwork says. That could be the Wing paddock, the support paddock behind Club, an endurance awning or a specific garage, and we have delivered to all of them. Tell us the gate and the paddock on the booking, and we aim for that exact spot. If access changes on the day, which it often does at big meetings, we will work with the gate staff to get as close as the rules allow.

Do you cover the British Grand Prix weekend?

We do, and we charge honestly for it because the logistics are genuinely harder. Road closures around Towcester, Brackley and the A43 mean a delivery that takes an hour on a normal test day can take most of the day. We leave early, we carry the right passes and paperwork, and we accept the queue when there is one. If you need a car in the paddock for an F1 support slot, book well ahead.

What about race bikes for MotoGP or BSB?

Bikes go on a dedicated bike trailer with the right tie-down points, and we do not ride them at any stage. We wheel them into place, strap them down and deliver them to the garage or awning the team is using. MotoGP and BSB paddocks at Silverstone have their own access rules, so we make sure we have the right credentials before we set off. It is the same door-to-door service we give cars, just with fewer wheels.

Can you bring a broken car home after a race?

Yes, and it is one of the most common calls we get on a Sunday evening. If the engine has let go or the car simply will not start, we winch it onto the trailer and drive it back to Devon or wherever it needs to go. It does not need to run. We carry ramps, straps and a winch as standard, and we are used to loading a dead car in the paddock while the rest of the team is packing up.
