Vehicle Transport to Castle Combe Circuit

Castle Combe is one of those circuits that has been there long enough that the corners answer to names nobody outside club racing quite remembers: Quarry, Camp, Folly and Tower. It is a quick little place, only 1.85 miles round, and the lap comes at you fast, which is why the Formula Ford and club racers love it and why the action days and track evenings fill up months ahead. The circuit sits in the Wiltshire countryside a short run from Chippenham and not far off the M4, and the roads in are narrow lanes through stone villages, which is the part nobody tells you about until you are trying to get a low loader round a hairpin with a cottage on the inside. We know that route. We carry race cars, track-day cars, classics and race bikes to Castle Combe for club meetings, action days and track days, one of us at the wheel, with the spares and tools brought along. Nothing gets handed to a third party in a depot near Swindon, and nothing gets driven into the circuit still lashed to a trailer that has been bouncing since Bristol. If your car is not road legal, that is exactly what we are set up for, and if it is a non-runner after its last outing we winch it and bring the bits to fix it. You tell us the event and the noise-test time and we plan the arrival backwards from that, because at Castle Combe the day lives or dies on whether you are settled in the paddock before your first session.

Non-road-legal track cars

A track-day car with no lights, no interior and a set of slicks has no business on the M4, and we do not pretend it does. We load it on a covered trailer or low loader, strapped and sheeted, and bring it straight into the Castle Combe paddock. No depots, no swaps, and no meeting us in a layby near Chippenham with your car balanced on the back of a borrowed trailer.

Race bikes

Castle Combe's bike days and club meetings bring a proper mix of machinery, and a race bike will not thank you for 150 miles bouncing in the back of a van. We carry bikes on a dedicated rack with wheels and fairings braced, and we take the warmers, the generator and the spare wheels so you are not borrowing bits from the garage next door on the morning of a track day.

Classics for the summer meetings

Castle Combe is one of the prettier circuits to bring a classic to, and an old car needs a bit more thought than a modern track hack. We sheet it, check the ride height before it goes anywhere near the trailer ramps, and drive it at a pace that suits a fifty-year-old gearbox. If it is a non-runner, we winch it on and off without a fuss.

Multi-car team moves

If you are running two or three cars at a Castle Combe meeting or action day, the logistics get old quickly: multiple drivers, multiple vans, and nobody quite sure who has the transponder charger. We move the whole lot as one convoy, each car driven by one of us, so the cars land in the paddock together and you only have one arrival to manage.

Paddock-to-paddock delivery

We bring the car or bike into the circuit, help you get it off and into your garage or awning, and only then do we call the job done. We do not drop you at the gate and leave you to push a dead car up the hill on your own. If your slot is tight, we time the arrival so the car is there before you are, not after.

Timing around action days and noise tests

Castle Combe runs a strict noise limit and the action days book out well in advance, so arriving early and sitting around is better than arriving late and failing the static test. We know the gate and sign-on times for the club meetings and action days, and we plan your arrival backwards from your noise-test slot so the car is settled in the paddock with time to spare.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get to Castle Combe from the south west?

From Devon it is usually a couple of hours up the M5 and across towards the M4, arriving at the circuit with plenty of time to unload before your session. The last few miles are narrow Wiltshire lanes through stone villages, which is why we use a setup that can actually get down them and into the paddock without grounding. We confirm a firm arrival window when you book and we stick to it.

Can you move a car that is not road legal?

That is most of what we do. Track-day cars, race cars and one-offs with no MOT and no lights go on a covered trailer or a low loader, strapped and sheeted, and there is no extra charge just because the thing cannot be driven on the road. We are used to loading low cars and wide cars, and we take the ride height seriously because the ramps at Castle Combe are steeper than you expect.

Do you cover track days and action days, not just race meetings?

Yes. Track days and action days are a big part of the Castle Combe calendar, and they are the events where someone is bringing a car they have just finished building and wants it there without drama. We price a single car sensibly for those days and we are happy to carry one track car rather than insisting you fill a trailer to make it worth our while, and we can hold the drop-off to suit whatever time your session starts.

What about the noise test?

Castle Combe is strict on noise and a car that fails the static test has wasted its morning. We get you there early enough to settle the car, let it cool and check the numbers before your slot, and we bring the baffles and the spare silencer along if you pack them. It is a small thing, but it is the difference between a full day on track and a morning in the car park.

Can you carry a classic car carefully?

Yes, and an old car gets treated differently to a modern track hack. We sheet it, check the clearance before it goes near the trailer ramps, and drive it at a pace that suits a gearbox that has been around since the sixties. If it is a non-runner we winch it on and off without a fuss, and we carry the tools and spares you will want in the paddock.

Do you deliver paddock to paddock or leave us at the gate?

Paddock to paddock, every time. We bring the car or bike into the circuit and help you get it off and into your garage or awning, and only then do we consider the job done. We do not drop your car in a layby near Chippenham and wish you luck. If you want us to stay for load-out, book the return at the same time and we will plan the day around you.
